Things to do in Hillingdon

As well as being the ideal spot from which to head into central London, you won’t be short of things to do in Uxbridge when you stay with us at The Red Lion. As well as taking in the architecture of this ancient area, the Beck Theatre hosts various exciting dance, drama, comedy and musical family shows.

Close by The Red Lion is the vast Colne Valley Regional Park, which stretches from Uxbridge in the east to Slough and Chalfont St Peter in the west. Covering more than 43 square miles of countryside, and surrounded by villages and towns, there’s plenty to discover.

Running through the middle of the park is a network of rivers, lakes and canals, with 19 nature reserves full of wildlife and areas of natural beauty to be explored, along more than 120 miles of waterways. There are several golf courses in the area, and other activities available include horse riding, mountain biking, angling and even flying lessons.

A short drive or 25-minute walk will take you from The Red Lion to the Battle of Britain Bunker, which is the original Battle of Britain RAF Fighter Group Operations Room, and is open to the public.

A fantastic exhibition hall features state-of-the-art museum displays and scheduled tours. You'll learn Britain's place in WW2, and have the privilege of standing in the actual bunker where the defence of the Home Counties happened.

The Black Park is another great location for outdoor activities. With over 500 acres of woodland, heathland and open space, it's perfect for biking and dog-walking, with well-marked walking paths. For the more intrepid, they also offer attractions such as Go Ape and an adventure park for the kids.

We’re conveniently placed close to transport links – very frequent buses stop right outside the pub going into central London or into Uxbridge for the underground station. Alternatively, it is just a ten-minute taxi ride, and if you’re flying in, we’re just five miles away from Heathrow Airport. We have limited complimentary parking available.
